Derived from my own digital design which is transferred to fabric and adhered to a foam core base with packed filler. The process of sealing to its base is derived from a Japanese art called Kimekomi. Created around 1734, Kimekomi is a technique where pieces of fabric are tucked into a based, giving the appearance of being sewn.
Working with fiber as I am sewing, weaving, binding, or assembling, gives me a gratifying sense of meditative rhythm in space and time, while offering a soft tactility for the senses. These sensations help me to stay mentally and physically present. The intersecting lines and circle formations relate to the idea of the circle with no beginning or end.
